Welcome to my website
I have lived in West Swan with my wife and two children since 1991 and prior to that in Beechboro. In 1995 I stood for the Swan Council elections and was elected to the Swan Valley Ward. This gave me an opportunity to work for the community, to understand and work with bureaucracy but most importantly to get things done.
I continue to be an active member of the community working hard to ensure that community concerns are heard.
In 2008 I stood for election to the State government for the Liberal Party in the new seat of West Swan and made significant inroads into Labor’s once safe margin.
In Malaga I have actively promoted business development and work with the Ballajura Community College to assist with Vocational Education Training (VET) for school leavers.
In 2008 I was appointed to the Ballajura Community College School Council Board. BCC was one of the first Independent Public Schools with award winning Dr Steffan Silcox as Headmaster. It is an honour to work with the College councillors to drive initiatives that will not only support local students but also the wider region. www.bcc.wa.edu.au
As president of the Malaga and Districts Business Association (MDBA) I actively lobbied the government to build an overpass bridge on Reid Highway and Alexander Road. Now that this is completed we need to see the Reid Highway/Malaga Drive bridge built.
Dual lanes on Reid Highway from Beechboro Road to West Swan Road and traffic lights at Lord St are some of the priorities for which I have fought. A recent announcement by Minister Troy Buswell that traffic lights will be installed at Lord/Reid has been welcomed by the community.
As MDBA president I supported Native Animal Rescue and the Ballajura Youth Dungeon with part proceeds from our functions. Following the last State election there were serious concerns that the Ballajura Youth Dungeon would be closed. I actively worked with our State parliamentarians to secure annual funding for this valuable community organisation. Thanks must go to Hon Donna Faragher, then Minister for the Environment and Youth, for recognising the need for this facility.
Before the Labor government disbanded it, I also worked on the Ballajura Safer WA local policing committee.
In 2007 I represented small business on the Perth Region Natural Resource Management (PRNRM) Board. In that roll I actively worked to secure Federal funds for a pilot project to assess light industry impacts on the environment and I am currently one of three directors on the PRNRM Board.
I am a Board member at Jobs Australia Midland - Jobs Australia provides services and employment to help people overcome disadvantage. Click to see the website
Below is a selection of community issues in which I have been actively involved. Should there be any community matters that you feel need attention please send me an email: rod @ rodhenderson.com.au Note, this is split to stop spammers collecting my address, please remove the gaps. |
